Inclement weather traps more people at home.
We recently purchased a 4WD Toyota Townace and snowchains during December so if you really need us we can be there to solve your IT issues in almost any weather including snow. |
|
This investment is the sole reason we reached all our customers over the past few weeks. Some areas such as suburbs in East Kilbride, Airdrie, Helensburgh & Argyll & Bute were blanketed in snow however we managed to reach all our customers & we only needed the snowchains once.
Here are a few tips for surviving in this wintry climate. |
Limit your travel. Use the telephone, internet to do your shopping, keeping in touch & paying bills.
Only travel if absolutely necessary & take warm clothes. When preparing to travel decide on clothing that you would be happy walking through the snow in & put these in the boot. Just for information here are the contents of the I.T. Neighbour Winter survival trunk.
- Salopettes, Ski Jacket, Hat, Scarf, ski gloves, Mask & Hiking boots.
- 2 Instant BBQs, Gas Lighter, Stove kettle & Thermos.
- Crisps, Water, Juice, Tea bags.
- Shovel, Snowchains, flares & Alpine Grade Sleeping Bag.
keep plenty of fuel in the car & never go below half a tank as that extra half tank may save your life if you get stuck. |

Staying Safe Online
There are plenty of applications & sites available that allow you to communicate to other people online. Chat rooms, Forums, Instant messaging, Blogs & Social Networking sites are becoming the traditional way of socializing with friends and family. Adults are generally robust when it comes to dealing with the negative aspects of online communication such as insults. However children can be a little more vulnerable and parents should be able to take a few steps to help protect their children who use the computer.
-
Educate your children of the dangers of talking to strangers, you should remind them that people they meet online may not be forthcoming about their true identity,
-
Re-Enforce about the irrelevance of personally directed comments. Remind your child that people online(including friends)may post personal attacks. Ask your child if he/she understands how to deal with so called "cyber bullying" before they happen.
-
Monitor your child's internet usage - if you have a desktop computer this step can be as simple as keeping the desktop computer in the living room. The presence of other family members will deter children from getting drawn into potentially upsetting or dangerous online situations.
-
Parental Controls are available on most computer operating systems. Did you know Windows Vista & Windows 7 can adjust access times as well as sites, games & access to chat rooms to suit. Your children probably know this so if your not sure then consult a professional to help setup a software solution.
-
Communicate regularly with your children. Make sure your child isn't finding it too convenient to talk to people online & ask them to show you their favorite online social networking site, messenger application or chat room.
